We seldom publicly share the many good things happening in our schools and school community. Enjoy this photo collage highlighting just a few: Art integration with our Middle School science and social studies classes; woodshop students applying new learning as they build shelves (and more); our school board in Juneau advocating for education funding; Raider Volleyball being recognized by the City of Unalaska.

Dear UCSD Families & Staff, You may have received a letter today from PowerSchool. This was not Spam. Last month, UCSD was notified by PowerSchool about a potential cybersecurity incident that may have allowed unauthorized access to information through its customer support portal. PowerSchool is the system used by the school district to manage student and staff information and specific records, and the district takes every step to ensure that information is safe and secure. PowerSchool has informed the district that our data was breached. This includes access to stored information such as names, addresses and date of birth. We do NOT store social security numbers, so that information was NOT accessed in this incident. While news of this nature can be unsettling, we would like to assure you that we are continuously researching and reviewing ways to keep school district information protected. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the Technology Department (tbolstad@ucsd.net) or the Superintendent (khanisch@ucsd.net or (907)581-7706. Sincerely, Kim Hanisch, Supt.

A message from the Unalaska City School District: Schools will open 2 hours later today due to poor driving conditions this morning. Student transportation will run 2 hours later than the normal schedule. Although we are not under a Category 1 or 2 weather warning, conditions early this morning were poor in areas of our routes. Breakfast will not be served. Lunch will be served. If families feel conditions are unsafe, they may keep their students home until conditions improve. Please call the school office to inform them of the reason for your student absence. This will be considered an excused absence.

To clarify previous email. Parents can pick up their students anytime between now and the end of the scheduled school day. Also, at this time, UCS students all have access to cell phones to ease family communication. If you have further questions, please call the school office. Thank you, Kim
