Unalaska Wrestlers Lynn and Cache both placed 6th at the State Championships. Congratulations to Coach Marquez and the entire wrestling team for an outstanding season. Go Raiders!

UCSD staff celebrated a successful semester of learning, relationships that remind us we are not alone on this journey, and the start to a much deserved vacation with ice cream, laughter and gifts.
Thank you to every member of our UCSD staff. It takes all of us - teachers, all of our classified people, principals, and volunteers - to bring joy to learning.
Happy Holidays to our UCSD community!
Kim Hanisch

Mr. Russell's Weights class ready to shovel snow for the Unalaska community. Go Raiders!

Knowing tomorrow looks a little "wintery", I wanted to let everyone know two things:
1) Decisions to have a late start will be made no later than 6:30 AM (check email, text, FB or website).
2) If we have school as scheduled, IF weather at the time you would want to drive seems unsafe, please call the school to let us know that the students will be late. This is excused and we look forward to them arriving when it is safe for all of you.
I will share more details regarding how decisions are made regarding school closures or late starts tomorrow. Safety is our priority!
Thank you,
Kim Hanisch

And the winner of the UCSD Door Decorating Contest is .....
With over 20 doors decorated by staff and teachers, our 4 student government students had a tough decision. All of the decorated doors have brought cheer to our buildings! Our EVE winner is a team of two: Ms. Charity and Ms. Pettinotti. UCS winner is Ms. Forfieda!!
Congratulations!

Tremendous results from the Bethel Wrestling Regions. Dwayne finished 4th, Cache and Kaidon were runners up, and Lynn is the Champion. Now on to State. Outstanding season Unalaska Raider Wrestling.

Building Safety Survey Results:
Thanks to all who contributed their perspective regarding our district's building safety and the possible installation of a form of security system. The UCSD board and I will take the results of this survey, along with the other research we've done, to make decisions that continue to keep student safety a priority.
You can find the results of the survey here:

Everyone is a learner at UCSD!
A group of 8 educators participated in a book talk to gain a deeper understanding around Dr. John Hattie's research identifying/explaining teaching practices that have the greatest impact on student success.
"10 Mindframes for Visible Learning" (2018) by John Hattie and Klaus Zierer impacted our understanding, beliefs and actions, as indicated by the collaborative word cloud created as our final reflection.
We are learners!

UCSD has some of the best teachers in the state (in my humble opinion). It would be great to have one or more recognized throughout the state.
If you would like to nominate a teacher for the Alaska Teacher of the Year 2025, complete this form no later than Jan. 2024.
