Jan. 2, 2025¬¬ Dear Families, Happy New Year! As our winter break comes to an end, I wanted to share a few important notes to help everyone transition smoothly back to school. School Resumes – Wednesday, January 8 We look forward to welcoming students back on Wednesday, January 8, with regular school and bus schedules. Our principals and staff are excited to see everyone return. We understand that student routines may have shifted during the break. To help ease the transition, we encourage families to start practicing regular school sleep schedules this weekend. Student Achievement As the first semester wrapped up, students in grades K-10 completed winter benchmark assessments (MAP and/or mClass). We are pleased to share that as a district, we have seen a 3% increase in the number of students meeting their projected growth goals in both math and reading. Additionally, more students are reaching proficiency or advanced levels! Our goal is for at least 80% of students to demonstrate growth and perform at grade level. While we are not there yet, we are making great progress! EduTrak and Student Fees A quick reminder that student fees (library, activities, etc.) will now be processed through EduTrak. This system offers convenient automatic payments and reminders, much like our meal service. We hope this makes it easier to stay informed and manage payments in one place. For families who prefer to make payments in person using cash, check, or credit card, that option remains available. Winter Weather As we all know, winter weather can sometimes lead to delayed starts, early releases, or school cancellations. Please know that student safety will always guide our decisions. Information about UCSD’s weather-related school closure process can be found here or on our district website. We will communicate any schedule changes at least one hour before buses begin their routes. However, conditions can change quickly. Parents are always welcome to keep their children home if they feel it is safer to do so. Thank you for your continued support and partnership. We look forward to a great start to the new year and second semester! Sincerely, Kim Hanisch, Supt. Unalaska City School District (907)581-7706
