Position Purpose:
Under the general supervision of the Unalaska City Schools (MS/HS) principal, to provide leadership and supervision in administering the activities and educational program of Unalaska City Schools in order to promote the educational development and achievement of students in accordance with the Board of Education policies, administrative procedures, rules and regulations and applicable law.

To provide classroom instruction for middle school and/or high school students.

Qualifications:

  • Possess (or be eligible for) Alaska Type B Administrative Certificate and Alaska Teacher Certificate required

  • Effective communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with administrators, school staff, parents, and community members.

  • Three years varsity level coaching experience required

  • Five years teaching experience required

  • Knowledge & experience with culturally safe and responsive practices to build a positive school climate required.

  • Familiarity with rural Alaska life

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Assistant Principal)

  • Works with school principal to promote a school environment that is safe and supports joyful learning experiences.

  • Develops and administers school activities programs consistent with school district goals and objectives.

  • Provides leadership and direction to coaching/extra-duty staff with regard to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of programs.

  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.

  • Ensures that Board policies and UCS student/parent handbook procedures are implemented and followed at the school.

  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.

  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping and reporting for all student activities, attendance and records as required by law.

  • Organizes and manages the budgetary and financial affairs of the school consistent with school district policies.

Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Works in standard office and school building environments.

Salary: As per UCSD certified negotiated agreement salary schedule and UCSD administrative salary schedule.
