Languages Program

We offer three different languages at the Unalaska City School: Spanish, German, and Russian. Students can start learning languages in Junior High School and continue in High School. Now we are offering four levels of the foreign languages. While teaching language not only do I try to teach grammar, vocabulary and conversation, but I also use different elements of each culture such as cooking, dancing, traditions, etc. In my language classes, I use a variety of methods to make classes more interesting. We play games, perform skits, create art, write stories, use pantomime, etc. My students enjoy field trips which we use to master our language skills (visits of Russian boats and conversations with crew, interviews with Hispanic people at the factories, trips to local restaurants and ordering food in Spanish, etc.). Many times we have foreign guest visitors in our classes.
