General Science
Course Description:
This course is an introduction to the sciences for high school students.

Grading Policy:
Semester grades will be based on the following assessments:

Quarter 1: 40%
Quarter 2: 40%
Semester Final Exam: 20%

Quarter grades will be based on the following assessments:
Participation: 10%
Homework: 20%
Labs: 10%
Quizzes: 20%
Tests: 40%

Participation:
Participation points will be earned on a daily basis but the scores will be recorded every two to three weeks. Each day your participation and behavior will be observed in three different areas: materials, safety, and behavior.
Materials:
Display readiness to begin working at the beginning of class. That means that your notebook and textbook are open to the correct page and your pencil is sharpened.

You will need to bring all of your "tools", on time, to class each day. This includes:

A Notebook
Pencil or pen
Textbook
Calculator
Homework

Safety: You will need to follow all safety instructions carefully. This includes:

-Use of goggles (when required)
-Use of apron (when required)
-Tie back all long hair( when required)
-Removing jackets or coats (when required)
-Displays correct use of lab equipment at all times
-Refraining running, jumping and pushing at all times
-Report any accidents or spills, to your teacher when they occur
-Leave snack and soda pop outside the classroom

Behavior: You will be evaluated on how well you treat your fellow students and teacher (including any substitute or adult in our classroom). This includes:

Shows respect for other people and property at all times.
Becomes involved in class activities at all times.
Asks appropriate questions and makes appropriate comments at appropriate times.
Participates in class discussions
Seeks, and offers, help at appropriate times.

Homework and Lab Assignments:
Homework and lab assignments will be made throughout the semester. Initially these assignments will be made on a daily basis. Some classes will receive weekly homework assignments later in the year. The due date for the assignment will be announced when the assignment is given. It is your responsibility to make up any lab activities or homework assignments that you may have missed due to an excused absence.
Quizzes:
You should expected to quizzed over recent material at any time. Some quizzes will be announced in advance and others may come as a surprise. Some classes have quizzes on a weekly basis, usually on Friday.
Tests or Hour Exams:
A test or hour exam will be held for each class approximately every three weeks. This will cover the material that was previously presented. It includes items derived for your reading, class discussions, homework problems, or lab activities. A final examination will be held at the end of the semester that will cover the entire semester.
