LANGUAGE ARTS
We began the year by interviewing each other and later interviewed
a family member to discover how the 5 themes of geography applied to the
area where that person had grown up. Students are now learning how to
diagram sentences. They are also participating in the Letters about Literature
Contest.
We are working with a new hands- on math program this year which features a Number Corner, problem solving, and a Problems Investigation session. In the Number Corner, students work on math facts, problem solving, and calendar activities.
SCIENCE
5th graders worked with the Foss Environments module and set up experiments
where they were able to determine range of salt tolerance for shrimp and
plants. They also analyzed data to determine optimum conditions for various
crops.
SOCIAL STUDIES
Students began the year working on map skills and learning about the
5 themes of geography. We are now begining our journey through the history
of the United States.
