Kaia Machalek
The High School Performance Department selected Kaia as Student of the Week for the following reasons:

  • Kaia is a student who perseveres. She diligently works through problems and comes to successful conclusions.
  • Her dedication and attention to detail make her an awesome business student. Kaia will travel to the Business Professionals of America's State Competition this spring to represent Unalaska.
  • Kaia has been a great asset to the Raider Swim Team this year. She showed significant improvements throughout the season, competing in 5 of the 6 meets. Swimming freestyle in the girls medley relay team, she helped break the school record with a time of 2:16.01. Kaia also qualified for finals at the Regional Meet in two events with an impressive 6th place in the 100 Free with a time of 1:03.48 and 7th place in 50yd Free with a time of 28.27.
Kaia excels in music! Recently she has been selected for the Alaska 2006 All-State Band, the top honor a student can receive in the state of Alaska. She has been placed in the top section of the band playing the 1st clarinet part. Kaia is a key performer in our high school band, and her sight-reading skills are outstanding. Miss Machalek is helpful, positive and encouraging to others, and she is very humble when it comes to her abilities.
  • The combination of all of these traits makes Kaia a rare and wonderful student to teach!

Keep up the good work, Kaia!
