Susan Carlile began her teaching career in 1965 after graduating from
Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. She taught first grade for
a total of four years in Wisconsin, California and Mercer Island, Washington.
She did daycare in her home for the next nine years in order to stay
home with her daughter.
In
1978 she moved from Redmond, Washington to Unalaska, AK. In 1980 she
began working for Alaska Commercial Co., which opened in Dutch Harbor,AK.
She held various positions including, assistant store manger, buyer,
and softwoods manager, shipping/ receiving and cashier.
In 1989 Ms. Carlile moved to Clarksville, Tn. where she was the manager
of a Birth thru Three Center for children with disabilities. She managed
a staff of three, was responsible for child find, writing IEP's and
seeing that Tennessee and U.S. special education laws were being followed.
In
1990 Ms. Carlile moved back to Unalaska to teach Preschool with the
Unalaska City School District. She is a Certified teacher with the state
of Alaska and is now finishing 17 years teaching preschool with the
Unalaska City School District. In her spare time Ms. Carlile enjoys
music, sewing, reading and knitting.
