As we find ourselves in the middle of the second semester of school it is important to take the time to refocus students and to help them to continue to stay focused to be the most successful students they can be. There are many important items to keep in mind as you work with your students.
Communication is an important factor that contributes to a student’s success. I encourage you to take an active role in your student’s education. Grades for students in grades 7-12 can be monitored electronically on Schoolmaster Passbook. This will allow you to check on your student’s progress more frequently from your own home or office. Simply enter your id and password and you can see all of your student’s grades. Teachers strive to keep their grade books up to date as a means of communicating grades with you via Passbook. If you have any questions about your student’s grades on Passbook please feel free to follow up with a phone call to that teacher. I know they would love to hear from you. More information on Passbook can be obtained from Sonia or Yvonne at the school office.
Another item that can help your students to be more successful is attendance at our after school study hall. This is an opportunity for your students in grades 5-12 to work on homework while supervised by a certified teacher. The study hall environment is intended for serious students and therefore is kept as quiet as possible with the expectation that students are working to finish work and become better students.
By monitoring your student’s progress in school and taking an active role in their education you can help to make sure they are as successful as they can be. Ask to see their assignments, check over their work, and monitor their assignments through assignment sheets, communication with teachers, and via passbook. Help us to keep the focus on academics by emphasizing the importance of school at home.
I hope that you and your children are having a great year. Please feel free to contact me at 581-1222 orjwilson@ucsd.net if you have any question or if I can do anything to help you.
