Attendance Policy

Attendance Policy

ABSENCES:

Please notify the secretary at your child’s school as soon as possible if your child will not be able to attend school by calling the office and explaining the reason for the absence. This is especially important in the elementary to ensure that all children are safe and accounted for. The secretary will pass the message on to the teacher. (If you would like to talk to the teacher about work that will be missed, the secretary can transfer your call after first recording the absence.)

 TARDIES:

If your child arrives at the school after the 8:30 bell has rung, he/she must stop by the office to check in and receive a tardy slip before heading to the classroom. Please remind them of this when you drop them off. A student who comes to school after 11:30 will be counted absent for half the day at the elementary school.

 CHECKOUT:

If parents or guardians need to take their child out of school during the day, they must check him/her out through the office, even if they have notified the teacher first. No student may leave the elementary without the permission of a parent or guardian.

 PRE-ARRANGED ABSENCES:

If you are aware in advance that your child will be absent from school for any amount of time, please stop by the office to fill out the appropriate form. The secretary will record the absence and then pass the information on to the teacher or put you in contact with the teacher directly. Please beware of the following policies

  • Students absent for more than 10 consecutive days shall be dropped from the class rolls as required by law.
  • When a K-6TH grade student is absent more than 30 days per year, the student will automatically be considered for retention. Meetings with the parents, teacher and principal will determine next year’s placement.
